The Shichon Teddy Bear puppy is a hybrid or cross between a Shih Tzu and a Bichon Frise. The Shih Tzu is reported to be the oldest and smallest of the Tibetan holy dogs. These dogs were bred by the Chinese court and from them the dog we know today as the Shih Tzu developed. The Bichon was popular in France during the Renaissance under Francis I (1515–47), but its popularity skyrocketed in the court of Henry III (1574–89).

Shichon Teddy Bear puppies are gentle and smart. They are known as “The Perfect Family Puppy” or often called “Forever Puppy” .They are fantastic with kids and very social, and friendly with everyone including other pets. Both laid back and active they will be your "forever friend".

We were once told that a everyone that meets a Shichon become their new best friend. We think that is an excellent description.

A Shichon Teddy Bear's personality develops as they become acclimated to their new home and family. If the home is lively and energetic, the puppy will develop an active, bouncy personality. If the home is generally calm and quiet, the puppy will become a quiet, laid-back member of the family. Your puppy's personality is up to you!

 

size & color

Shichon Teddy Bears sizes vary, depending on genetics. They usually average from 12 to 16 pounds and come in a variety of colors. Shichons are each unique in size, color and personality.

 

care

Shichon Teddy Bears need to be brushed weekly and they need to be clipped about 3 or 4 times a year. They shed very little so they are a good choice for families with allergies.

 

training & obedience

Shichon Teddy Bears are very smart because of the Bichon influence. They want to please you so they learn commands quickly as long as you are totally consistent. Teaching a Shichon with games and treats is a wonderful way to allow them to learn and be trained in a timely manner.

 

activity level

Shichon Teddy Bears want to do what you want them to do. They are happy chasing the kids around the backyard all day long or just as content curled up at your feet while you watch television or read a book. They truly enjoy being part of the family.
